Your Guide to the CETMP Skincare Routine for Glowing Skin

In our previous posts, we explored the five main skin types and how to identify yours at home. Now, let’s delve into a fundamental skincare routine known as CTMPE, designed to promote healthy, radiant skin.

CTMP stands for Cleansing, Exfoliating, Toning, Moisturizing and Protecting. While some may be familiar with the first four steps, adding exfoliation elevates this routine to the next level. Let’s break down each step and understand its importance:

1. Cleansing:

This is the foundation of any skincare routine. Cleansing removes dirt, dust, makeup, sweat, and oil that accumulate on the skin’s surface throughout the day. These impurities can clog pores and lead to dullness.

  • Choose a Cleanser Based on Your Skin Type:
    • Oily Skin: Opt for gel-based or foam-based cleansers.
    • Dry Skin: Look for cream-based or lotion-based cleansers.
    • Sensitive Skin: Choose a mild, gentle cleanser.
  • Pro-Tip: Use lukewarm water to rinse your cleanser, as hot water can irritate the skin. For overly sensitive skin, cold water provides a cooling and soothing effect.

2. Toning:

Contrary to popular belief, toning does not merely tighten pores. It plays a vital role in hydrating, balancing the skin’s pH, and enriching it with nutrients.

  • Benefits of Toning:
    • Enhances the absorption of subsequent skincare products like serums and moisturisers.
    • Provides additional benefits depending on the specific toner’s ingredients.
  • Pro-Tip: Avoid alcohol-based toners, as they can be harsh and drying. Choose a toner that suits your skin type and concerns.

3. Moisturizing:

Moisturizing is crucial for maintaining skin health and hydration. It replenishes moisture lost throughout the day and protects the skin from environmental aggressors.

  • Choosing the Right Moisturizer:
    • Oily Skin: Select gel-based or water-based moisturisers that are lightweight and easily absorbed.
    • Dry Skin: Opt for thicker, cream-based moisturisers enriched with ingredients like ceramides or peptides. These ingredients provide long-term hydration and combat signs of ageing.
    • Sensitive Skin: Choose a light-based moisturizer that absorbs easily without requiring friction.

4. Protecting:

Sun protection is non-negotiable for healthy skin. Sun exposure is a major contributor to premature ageing, tanning, pigmentation, dark spots, and dehydration.

  • Sunscreen Essentials:
    • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
    • Choose an SPF of 30 or higher.
    • Apply sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days.

5. Exfoliating:

This step often gets overlooked, but it’s essential for revealing fresh, healthy skin. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, which can build up and cause dullness, clogged pores, and uneven texture.

  • Exfoliation Frequency:
    • Oily Skin: Exfoliate 2-3 times a week.
    • Dry Skin: Exfoliate once a week.
    • Sensitive Skin: Exfoliate once every two weeks.
  • Benefits of Exfoliation:
    • Reduces dullness and promotes a brighter complexion.
    • Helps minimize pore clogging.
    • Enhances the absorption of other skincare products.

Consistency is Key!

To reap the full benefits of the CETMP routine, consistency is crucial. Commit to this routine daily for optimal results. Remember to adjust the frequency of exfoliation based on your skin type.
